Silver cars are safest.

Silver cars have been claimed to be the safest on the roads. They are far less likely to be involved in a crash causins serious injury.

Risk is said to be halved for drivers of silver cars compared with white, previously thought to be the safe option because of its high visibility.

However experts suggested that it is the personality of the driver, rather than the car, which makes the real difference. Motorists who choose silver cars tend to be more mature, better-off and low risk-takers, the type of personality choosing them tends to be very satisfied with their social and emotional position. They have a mature outlook on life.

These are not cars driven by people who take risks lightly, whereas black cars are more likely to be driven by ruthless risk-takers. Silver cars also tend to be large cars, and the bigger the car the safer it is.

The survey found that driving a silver car reduced the risk of a crash resulting in serious injury by 50% compared with white cars. Yellow, grey, red and blue cars had a similar injury risk to white, while brown, black and green carried the highest risk.
