But after the decline of its steel industry, Sheffield has become the cyberspace capital. A higher proportion of homes in the South Yorkshire city are hooked up to the internet than in any other town.
A third of its residents spend more than 30 hours a week on the web. Londoners spend only a 15th of that time online. Seven in ten of those with web access said their favourite online activity was listening to music.
Nationally, 43% said they spend more time online than watching TV.
